Renee
One hundred and seventy-three pounds. I recorded into my diet book then sat straight in my seat. I stared across the table at my two younger twin brothers. Travis, who was munching away on a chocolate chip muffin, was talking to his twin, Tyrone, who was also tearing through his muffin. I stared at them with anxiousness, wanting to eat those muffins. “Baby, you alright?” A voice woke me up. I glanced up, seeing Dana, my annoying-goody-two-shoes-everyone-loves-my-new-breast-implants-step-mother standing over me with a cup of nice smelling coffee.
“Uh, yeah,” I muttered, looking away as she walked past me, patting my head.
“Then, why don’t you eat?” She wondered. I eyed my orange with a silver spoon nearby in a tissue. Also, I had a burnt toast in a China dish. I rolled my eyes barely.
“This is food?” I asked, glancing back at The Tatter-Tots, which is what I call Tyrone and Travis behind their backs. She shrugged then sat down at the table. As she sat down, I spotted my dad running down the stairs. He was still fixing his tie. Dana looked around then behind her.
“Hi baby, rushing, huh?” She asked, pecking him on the lips. Don’t call him baby. You don’t love him. You only love him for his fucking money. I thought angrily. Daddy smiled then took my toast then kissed my forehead.
“Yes, got a huge interview with the chief.” He chuckled, slapping a handshake with The Tatter-Tots. “ I gotta go,” He kissed Dana again on the lips, slipping on his shoes near the stove. He glanced over at me with a smile. “Thanks for the toast, baby girl.” He said, rushing to the door.
“But, that was—“ I saw Dana glare over at me, telling me to shut up. I clamped down my mouth. “Mine,” I squeaked. I got up, suddenly not wanting to eat. I can buy breakfast at school instead.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Dana hissed as the door shut close.
“Duh, school,” I snapped quietly. “It’s already six-fifty-one, Dana. Can you ride me to school?” I asked nicely.
“NO! She’s driving us to school, fatty!” Tyrone screamed. I shot him a look and he got up. “Besides, you need the exercise, man, you mad heavy.” He laughed then Travis high-fived him. Dana couldn’t help but smile unnoticeably even though it was HUGE.
“Dana, so?” I asked, ignoring them. They were just background noises to me. Let them burn in hell, I don’t care. Just stupid stepbrothers. It was better when it was just Daddy and I and my older brother but he passed away because of a school shooting two years ago. She shrugged again. It seems that’s all she says to me. Shrugs.
“Travis and Tyrone need the drive, though.” She smiled. Favoritism. I thought awfully offended. “I’ll pick you up though.”
“I need the ride, Dana! School starts in like five minutes!” I screamed, freaking out now.
“Hmm, oh well. Let’s go boys. You going to be late,” She said, cracking a smile at me then rushing her boys to their rooms to get ready. I sighed then ran to my room, which was in the basement, and got my bookbag and dumped my books in there and ran out the backdoor, taking the quicker way to school, as if I would get there on time.

I flatten back on my back, breathing hardly. Was that considered as a kiss? Was I now not a lip-virgin? What was this suppose to—Then it came to me. Olivia. She can help with my questions. I picked up my hot pink Razr and called her up. She picked up on the third ring.
“Finally, he’s out right?” She asked, not taking a breath.
“Uh, about—“ I started but she cut in.
“Ah, gotta tell you this, girl.” She interrupted. “My date with Joshua was spectacular. It was wonderful.” I yawned, walking to the kitchen to grab myself a soda.
“Mhm,” I muttered, cracking open the soda can.
“—and he kissed me too!” She cried. I took a swig then once I heard that, I almost spat out the soda. I had some slithering down the side of my mouth. Already, they had kissed! They just started getting to actually know each other’s names last week. And this week, they kiss… Man, she shifts to the next base quicker than you can say whore. Not to be mean, but she had already, for this year, went out with seven guys and broke all of their hearts. “Did you hear me!” She shrieked into the cell phone. I came back quickly, cleaning up the slithering soda coming from my mouth.
“Y-yeah and why?” I wondered. I heard her laughing emotionless.
“Well, ‘cause that’s what lovers do, Bri.” She said. “Don’t you know that?” She asked. I felt a pang of jealousy hit me.
“No, I don’t.” I answered angrily. I heard her gasp then sigh.
“Sorry girl. I didn’t mean—“
“It’s alright. But, I got something to tell you though. I sorta… uh… kissed Darcell just now. I don’t know if it was a kiss or whatever.” I explained. She gasped again.
“NO! You bitch!” She shrieked. “You didn’t!”
“Uh, I just told you I did, Livy. I don’t know what to do.” I said.
“Then, ignore him. He’s an ass.” She whispered. I cracked a smile then licked my dry lips that hadn’t been moistened since I got kissed my Darcell.
“He’s not, Livy. Look, it’s getting late.” I lied. It was only eight something.
“You and your early sleeping. Whatever… I’ll see you tomorrow.” She clicked off without my response. I crawled into bed, dreaming only about Darcell and our awkward kiss.

~ One ~
Brianna
Starts out with the truth

“What do you think of me?” He asked, sitting on my couch. He took a bite out of his apple and chewed slowly, waiting for my answer. How was I supposed to answer to something like that? Nervously, I sat down next to him. This him was my best guy friend, Darcell. We had been friends since we were in diapers. We even had a secret handshake that no one and I mean no one… could repeat. Mainly because it was that complex and very embarrassing to do. “So?” He edged on.
“Um, you’re cool?” I said, not sure what to really say. He shook his head, smiling away from me then looked back, his green eyes twinkling.
“No, Brianna. What do you think of me? Do you like me?” He asked. I felt my insides grow warm as he leaned in.
“Uh, well… Darcell… I dunno how to—“ Suddenly, the doorbell ringed. I hopped off from the couch. Yes, saved. I thought happily. I walked to the door and checked through the bay window at the top of the door. It was my girl, Olivia. I waved at her and unlocked the door, letting her in.
“I got sooooo much to tell you, girl. You are going to have to get some popcorn if you know what I—“ Olivia stopped talking, carefully glancing at me then at Darcell. She raised both of her newly did eyebrows. “Oh, did I interrupt something?” She asked, peeking over at Darcell with a smirk. He smiled at her. “Darcell.” She said, glaring playfully at him.
“Livy, how are you?” He asked, slightly turning to her.
“Angry ‘cause I need to talk with my girl but you hogging her.” She snapped. I rolled my eyes barely and walked back to my couch next to Darcell. I patted his leg and he smiled. Olivia, who was seeming to look aggravated with that, sucked her teeth lowly.
“I ain’t, Livy. You always bringing that up.” Darcell said, fixing on an angry look. Oops, I guess I forgot to tell you that a little thing happened with Darcell and Olivia. Yeah, they went out for about a month. Near their final days, Olivia started seeing this guy (who is now her recent ex-boyfriend) and went out with him. So, cheating in other words. Somehow, Darcell found out. Damn, gossip spreads like wildfire in our school, swear it. First period, for example, you would hear it. Then by at least third or fourth, it’s all over the school, even some middle schoolers finding out.
“Hogging her? I’m not trying to bring up anything, dammit. You—Darcell, just shut your mouth, alright?” Olivia hissed, squishing her pinky, ringer-finger, middle finger and index finger together then clamping it down on her thumb next to Darcell’s face. “This is suppose to be your mouth.” She clamped it down again. Darcell pushed her hand out of his face then looked at me.
“Do you know this girl?” He joked, chuckling. I loved the way he laughed. It was a small manly giggle. I know sounds weird but it’s cute.
“No,” I answered, glancing at Olivia with a grin. She shook her head sadly then got up. “Where you going?” I asked.
“Home, call me when that boy is outta here.” She muttered, casting a glare at Darcell. He smirked to himself and I slapped him on the arm.
“Um, okay?” I said, watching her leave the house. Once the door closed, Darcell jumped on me, holding my hands on both sides. His face was inches away from mine.
“Are you going to answer my question?” He whispered, his breath smelling like apples.
“Maybe,” I whispered back.
“Go on,” He said.
“I dunno, sure?” I replied. He chuckled his manly giggle and leaned more into me. I could feel his breath on my lips. He brushed my lips with his. Oh my God, no! I screamed in my head. He can’t kiss me! He can’t. That would ruin everything. I thought. He leaned more. He pressed his lips on mine. I felt myself melt under his body as he moved a bit and continued pressing his lips on mine. I closed my eyes because I saw him closing his. Was I supposed to be enjoying this? Was this what people said that was so breathtaking? Was this a kiss? What the heck was this? He instantly pulled away from me. He got off from me.
“I’m sorry,” He murmured. Aww, he’s done? No! I cried.
“Uh…” I said softly. “It’s ok?”
“No… I shouldn’t have done that. Uh, I’m going.” He quickly walked to the door, climbing into his shoes. He reached for the knob.
“Hey, Darcell?” I asked. He turned back to me, his eyes looking tired. “You forgot your jacket.” I laughed daintily. He chuckled then walked back and took it.
“Thanks, I’ll um… see you tomorrow then? At my locker?” He asked.
“Yeah, sure.” I answered, letting him go. The door shut without a sound.
